Midsummer Crafting – Litha Blessing Oil

< BLOG

Each year I make up a vial of deliciously scented oil to use in ritual and as part of my every day prayers as well. My practice is to make the sign of the wheel Ꚛ on my forehead with the oil, while reaffirming my dedication to my path. I use the same words Morghan says:
From Sky to Root,
Through all worlds,
From each birth to each death,
My life dedicated.

But you may want to say something completely different, appropriate to your own circumstances.

So, why not stir up a little midsummer magic with which to anoint and bless yourself?

5 drops lavender
4 drops rosemary
4 drops geranium or rose oil
15 mls (1/2 ounce) sunflower oil
Add a piece of lavender, a small citrine, a piece of clear quartz.

For those of you who do not have access to essential oils (they can be expensive!) here’s a lovely alternative, which you can use as a healing moisturiser:

Fill a small bottle or jar with sunflower, macadamia, or sweet almond oil. Add stems of lavender and rosemary, pop in your citrine and quartz stones, and set to infuse for a while.

This year, when I made the oil, I used what I happened to have on hand, which turned out to be macadamia oil for the base, with lavender, sweet orange, and geranium essential oils. I didn’t have any gems to pop in, so I added a couple lavender flowers and some dried rose petals.
